Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Vascular Access Team is responsible for providing excellent care to a diverse patient population within our multi-service environment based on the philosophy and conceptual framework of Nursing Practice at the Scarborough Health Network. Services include, but not inclusive to PICC and peripheral IV insertion, PICC and central catheter care and maintenance, and patient education.

Requirements:

• Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Competent to perform CPR at a Basic Cardiac Life Support level
• Competent to perform bedside PICC insertions independently, using ultrasound technology
• Advanced skills in the insertion of peripheral IV′s in adult and paediatric patients and the ability to support new staff in developing this skill
• Competent in the care and maintenance of all CVAD catheters and able to support new staff in developing these skills
• Strong ability to apply adult teaching strategies to both patients and staff members.
• Previous experience with coaching and mentoring and has demonstrated effectiveness in working as a member of a multidisciplinary team
• Previous experience with quality improvement projects
• Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
• Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community
• Ability to work well independently and to exercise sound judgement
• Ability to perform the essential duties of the position
• Demonstrated pattern of good attendance and work record
• Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN′s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area.
• Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public.
