Position Overview:
The Physician Assistant will support the Division of 3A Surgery with assigned or delegated tasks assigned by the physician. The physician maintains primary responsibility for patient care as the principle medical decision-maker. The type of work delegated, and the extent of direct supervision provided to the PA will be dependent on the physician′s scope of practice and SHN policy.

Typically tasks may include:
• Conducting patient interviews and taking medical histories
• Performing physical examinations and procedures
• Triaging incoming referrals from external care providers and the emergency department
• Providing counseling on preventive health care
• Performing controlled acts as delegated by a physician
• Performing other tasks within the supervising physician′s scope of practice that the physician deems the PA qualified to complete.

Requirements:
• Graduate of the McMaster or Consortium Physician Assistant Program
• Certified by the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada
• Successful completion of the PACCC PA Certification Exam (candidates sitting the exam in October 2023 are eligible to apply)
• Eligible to work in Canada/Ontario
• Current ACLS and BCLS
• Demonstrates excellent time management, prioritization, decision-making, problem-solving and organizational skills
• Demonstrates ability to take initiative and work under pressure
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, communication, spoken and written, with the ability to interact with a wide range of stakeholders with professionalism, tact and diplomacy
• Demonstrated ability to manage confidential and sensitive materials in a professional manner
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues and volunteers and other members of the community and public
• Demonstrates values consistent with SHN′s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
• Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area.
